The Universal Law of
RESPONSIBILITY

The Universal Law of Responsibility states that: “Whatever we take responsibility for, we can change.”

RESPONSIBILITY is the ability to choose smarter, more intelligent responses.

Responsibility is the ability to respond intelligently, and as we respond intelligently, The Law of Responsibility prospers and blesses us in abundant ways.

Our success in not determined by what’s done TO us as much as it is by what’s done BY us. As we improve on those things done BY us, the things done to US get better.

How to Use The Law Correctly

Fully conscious people use The Law of Responsibility correctly by looking for the connection between what is being done to them and what is being done by them. They focus their attention on continually improving what they do because they know those improvements eventually cause good things to happen to them.

How to Use The Law Incorrectly

Those individuals who are ignorant of The Law of Responsibility use it incorrectly by blaming others for their misfortunes. Blame is about making other people responsible for the negative things done to us. Blame keeps us stuck in our suffering because as long as we blame others for our suffering we must wait for them to change before feeling better.

The Law of Responsibility says: When we blame others for problems that cause us to suffer, we get more problems to suffer about.

Shame, the Twin of Blame

Shame is a painful feeling we experience when we blame our self. Shame is the awareness that what is being done by us is creating the unfortunate things done to us but instead of choosing an intelligent response we punish ourselves for failure.

The Law of Responsibility says: When we shame ourselves for wrongs done by us, we bring more wrong into our life to be shameful about.

The key to living The Abundant Life is to claim responsibility for your life without blame or shame.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Can you think of a time in your life when you took responsibility for your situation, and as a result you were able to resolve an issue, which lead to greater success?

  2. Is there a time when blame and shame caused you to get more of the same?
