The Universal Law of
GRATITUDE

The Universal Law of Gratitude states that: “Whatever we are GRATEFUL for will increase.”

Stated another way: “Whenever we express GRATITUDE for the good we receive, we receive more good for which to be GRATEFUL.”

Like many of the Universal Laws, the Universal law of Gratitude is circular. Let’s break it down.

Merriam-Webster defines GRATEFUL as:

  1. Appreciative of benefits received
  2. Expressing thankful appreciation for benefits or favors received.

When we are GRATEFUL for the good in our lives, we receive more good to be GRATEFUL for. It sounds simple. But there are correct and incorrect ways to express The Universal Law of Gratitude.

All too often, people are unaware, non-believing, or forgetful of the importance of gratitude. But it is extremely important for those who wish to prosper to not only be grateful for the good they receive but to express gratitude.

The right use of the law of GRATITUDE requires action. Simple awareness of the good we receive is not enough. We must express gratitude by giving appreciation. An action of gratitude can begin the movement from being hateful to grateful.

Conversely, an expression of hate will cause more problems to come into your life to be hateful towards. In other words complaining about your problems brings more problems into your life to complain about!

Humility also goes hand-in-hand with GRATITUDE. It is dangerous to attribute the good we receive to our own deeds alone. It is much wiser to recognize that our “Higher Power” working through others brings the good in our life to us. Tragically when we take the good in our life for granted, we lose it.

As you begin using The Law of Gratitude correctly take care not to get mesmerized by the abundance it produces. It’s too easy to get so caught up in enjoying the fruits of gratitude that you stop expressing gratitude for the fruit you’re receiving. Once you stop expressing gratitude, the flow of good is interrupted, and your abundance ceases to multiply. The easiest way to avoid this is to set a lifelong intention of living in an “attitude of gratitude”.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What good do you have in your life to be grateful for?

  2. How can you express appreciation for the good in your life by engaging the Universal Law of GRATITUDE?

  3. Can you recall a time when your complaints led to more complaints?
