SPECIAL REPORT: Hair Cuttery Region Explodes Its Potential and Goes From Worst First It was two years ago that Regional Leader Gail Logue was first exposed to Michael Cole’s profound knowledge. Before beginning her work with Michael, Logue was in the midst of a crisis. The combination of professional turmoil, and the personal struggle of having her daughter seriously injure herself, things were growing progressively worse for Gail. To worsen matters, her region was ranked the lowest in all of Hair Cuttery, and the scores on her leadership reports were just as low. She was now in danger of losing her job. Knowing that she would not be able to continue on her present course, she turned to long time friend Michael Cole. “It was grim for her,” recalls Michael. “She was in a downward spiral.” While Michael happily agreed to offer his guidance, he first had to ask a question. “Are you ready?” he would ask. “Are you ready to go to any length?” And it was when Gail answered yes that Michael shared the first of his “Golden Nuggets.” Golden Nugget #1: It is easier to improve your reactions then it is to improve your issues and when we improve your reactions your issues ultimately improve. This would come to be the foundation of all Michael’s work with Gail. In agreeing to work with her, it became Michael’s purpose to engage her in what he has come to call The Method of Coaching and Mentoring. For Michael, there is a fundamental difference in what it means to coach someone and to mentor someone. “Coaching” is a leader helping people to do something better in order to get more of something good. “Mentoring” is a leader helping someone to see themselves better so they feel more confident. Golden
Nugget #2: SEE, FEEL, DO, GET SEE,
FEEL = Mentoring DO,
GET = Coaching Within months of her work with Michael, Gail’s life had begun to turn around. She had regained credibility with her peers, respect from those working in her region, and support from her family. So significant was her progress in fact, her Maryland region now consistently competes for Hair Cuttery’s number one sales region. In learning new methods for listening, communicating, and thinking, Michael mentored her through:
Having made such monumental progress, Michael Cole feels compelled to tell Gail’s story to share the awesome power that these leadership techniques can have on others. Gail has not been the only person at Hair Cuttery to see the effects of Michael Cole’s coaching and mentoring. Over the past year, she has seen to it that those working in her region have the same experience as she. For the past nine months, her Hair Cuttery District Leaders have entered into a mentorship with Michael. Learning the same leadership methods as Gail, they have been preparing to work salon and assistant salon leaders under them, to pass the knowledge on to as many as possible. And as of February, in leading a three-day leadership retreat, Michael Cole has exposed three hundred of the Hair Cuttery Maryland region Salon Leaders to what it means to be a Leader. Thus far the response has been phenomenal, and as for the future, the sky is the limit for what the future will hold for them. In fact Gail Logue could not have put it better when she said, “For me this was and continues to be a life altering experience and I intend to spend the rest of my life passing it on to others, in whatever form that takes.”
